Winners of the creative foods A Halloween cookie contest at the high school were Skylar Anderson, Amanda Merrill, Sydney Anderson and Danielle Hanson. The assignment was to form cookie dough into Halloween shapes and decorate them. They were judged by a combination of nine adults and students. The cookies were rated on the following areas: unique, creative, neatness, fun, appetizing and interesting. The recipe used is attached.
Cake mix cookies
1 yellow cake mix (can use any flavor of mix)
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. oil
1/4 c. water
1 egg
Mix, shape and bake for 10 to 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
Tip: To make shapes, flatten dough gently and evenly with your fingers or a floured rolling pin. Work with it a little until it looks like you want it to. You may shape it any way you like.
Warning: It will swell up and get fatter when it bakes. Give it room on the cookie sheet to get twice as big as it starts out. It will grow together; make it skinnier than you expect it to be.
Yellow cake mix makes sugar cookies and Valentine heart cookies and spice cake mix makes gingerbread men.
To make heart shapes, start with a round ball of dough. Flatten it gently and evenly with your fingers or a floured rolling pin, then draw in a dent at the top and shape the heart humps and squish in the bottom sides for a point. Work with it a little until it looks like a heart.
