Freeborn County Public Health workers administered just over 400 H1N1 immunizations on Tuesday during its first flu clinic for targeted members of the public.

Freeborn County Public Health Director Lois Ahern said there is still vaccine available to give out during a second clinic on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

Pregnant women, people who live with or provide care for infants under the age of 6 months, children ages 6 months through age 4, and adolescents age 5 to 18 who have a medical condition that would put them at a higher risk are the targeted group that’s able to get the immunization in this round.

Ahern said she does not have the information broken down yet about who came in to get immunized on Tuesday, but she did note that there were a lot of children and child care providers in attendance.

Before the first clinic, the Public Health Department had about 500 doses of vaccine — made up of both the mist and injectable version. Ahern said people would be screened to determine which type they are eligible for.

For the Saturday clinic, there is no cost and people do not need to make appointments. They are encouraged to enter at the Bridge Avenue entrance.

After the targeted groups are done, eventually there will be enough H1N1 vaccine for anyone who wants it, Ahern said.
