John Moen

The Funeral Service of John A. Moen, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Wayne Halvorson will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at church.
John died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. He was 73.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1935, in Leland, Iowa, the son of Ole O. and Marie (Storvig) Moen. He attended rural Lake Mills Schools and later graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1954.
He as united in marriage to Alice L. Leegaard on July 30, 1955, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home in Albert Lea and John worked for Water Tower Paint & Repair in Clear Lake, Iowa, for four years.
He then worked for Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea for more than 30 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club.
One of John’s passions in life was bowling, he enjoyed the sport and also had a side business of drilling bowling balls for many years. He also enjoyed a good game of golf.
John had a soft spot for his grandchildren and they put the sparkle in his eye.
John will be greatly missed by his wife, Alice; five children: Debra C. Stanley of Albert Lea, Joanne (Kevin) McDermott of Oronoco, David (Kim) Moen of Albert Lea, Robert Moen of Albert Lea and Greg (Rhonda) Moen also of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Brady (Carson) Stanley of Antigua, Virgin Islands, Jessica (Jason) Geary of Rochester, Jodi Moen of Mankato, Daniel Moen of Mankato, Jennifer Moen of Albert Lea, Kris Moen of LaCrosse, Wis., Jordan Moen of Albert Lea, Autumn Krcil of Albert Lea, James Moen of Byron, Jacob Moen of Byron, Jason Krcil of Albert Lea, Kayla Moen of Albert Lea and Johanna Moen of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren William, Teaghen, Sophia, Owen and Christian; brother Marlin “Buddy” (Roxie) Moen of Rochester; sister Ida McMahon of Farmington, N.M.; brother’s-in-law, sister’s-in-law and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parent brothers Oris “Ole” and Stanley, and a sister Agnes.
