Some clerks don’t like the magic words

This letter is in regard to your editorial on store clerks.
Most of them remain upbeat and courteous. I can realize all the different types of people they have to deal with on their shift.
However, some of them are there and don’t want to be.
I have noticed a “thank you” has been replaced by “have a nice day.”
When I don’t get a thank you, I will ask for one. Maybe this adds to their woes the rest of the day. The checkout then will give you a thank you, but you can tell they really didn’t want to.
Thank you and please are three important words to me.
