The Southwest Middle School Music Department announced the names of three eighth-grade boys who have been selected by audition to sing in the Anacrusis Boys Honors Choir.
Tanner Shaft, Jordan Vano and Michael Whitten will join more than 100 boys from across Minnesota in a concert at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Mahtomedi. It is an honor and an accomplishment to be part of this select choir.
In preparation for the event, they will work on their own and with Sherry Seberson, SWMS choral director. They will be working to learn their voice parts and the words from memory for five songs in various styles, which include the spiritual “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,” Felix Mendelssohn’s “I Am a Roamer Bold,” and “One by One” from Disney Records’ “Rhythm of the Pridelands.”
Anacrusis Boys Honors Choir will rehearse with and sing in the concert on under the direction of guest conductor Christopher Aspaas, who is assistant professor of choral and vocal music at St. Olaf College, Northfield. At St. Olaf, Aspaas conducts the Viking Chorus, a group of more than 80 first-year student men, and the Chapel Choir.
