Train hits vehicle

A Union Pacific Railroad engine struck a vehicle at the Hawthorne Street crossing at 2 a.m. Saturday. When Albert Lea police arrived at the accident scene, no one was in the vehicle.
The woman police believe to be the driver of this vehicle was located nearby a short time later. Debra Jane Lau, 38, no address listed, the alleged driver of the vehicle, was cited for fourth-degree DWI. She tested .18, according to the police report. Lau was also cited for leaving the scene of an accident and having an expired driver’s license.
