The Austin-Albert Lea rivalry was alive and well Thursday night when the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team faced the Packers in Austin.
The Packers and Tigers (2-3) played remained tied at 0-0 after three periods, but Austin stuck at 2:48 in overtime for a 1-0 victory.
Abby Gallaher scored in the overtime session to lift the Packers (4-4-1) to their second consecutive overtime victory this week.
Sydney Conley turned away 44 shots in goal for the Tigers.
“Sydney Conley had an excellent night in net,” said Albert Lea head coach Brian Blatti. “She saved us several times.”
The Tigers fired 35 shots on goal in the loss.
“We just weren’t able to connect on some of the passes and we had a little bit of difficulty following through or crashing the nets for rebounds,” Blatti said.
Albert Lea faces Rochester Century Thursday at the City Arena in Albert Lea.
