Lorraine Carol (Torgerson) Hansen, 87, of Wells, passed away at her home in Wells, on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate and burial will take place in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.
Lorraine Carol Hansen was born July 25, 1922, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., the daughter of Norman and Elva (Toebass) Torgerson. On June 27, 1948, she married Gordon Albert Hansen in Iola, Wis.
Lorraine attended Stevens Point State College to become a teacher. She taught elementary school in Wisconsin after which she enrolled at Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. Upon completing the course of study, she accepted a position in Adams. In Adams, she taught the release time program for Little Cedar Lutheran Church. It was in Adams where she met Gordon Hansen. While in Adams, Lorraine was active in a variety of church functions and public service activities. During the summer of 1960, the family moved to Wells. Lorraine joined and led several church activities, taught Sunday School and was a member of Ladies Aid. She also directed a children’s choir for many years. She was a talented seamstress and regularly sent clothes to Biafra. Additionally, Lorraine spent many hours volunteering with international refugees in South Central Minnesota. Throughout her life she was actively involved in Bible and book study groups.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband, Gordon; three daughters: Susan Collins, Karen Hansen, Diane Hansen; one brother, Forrest Togerson (wife Virginia); four grandchildren: Gordon Collins (wife Erika), Loren Collins, Thomas Collins, Karen Collins; one brother-in-law, Merwin Hansen; and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Via Pairitz.
