Lourdes holds off Tigers 4-3

Rochester Lourdes used a strong third period to get past the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team 4-3 in an up and down game between section opponents.

Eric Carlson scored three goals for the Tigers (4-5-1), including one on a penalty shot in the third period as he helped lead the Albert Lea comeback.

The Eagles (5-4-2) and the Tigers entered the third period tied 1-1 but Lourdes grabbed a 4-2 lead by getting goals from Alex Funk, Ryan Nicolay and a shorthanded goal from Alex Dewitz.

The Eagles went up 3-1 in the first four minutes of the third and Carlson scored twice to cut it to a one-goal game.

“It was a real good high school hockey game,” said Albert Lea head coach Roy Nystrom. “It was a fun game to watch.”

The Tigers outshot Lourdes 28-26 for the game and in the final two periods.

Albert Lea travels north Friday to play sixth-ranked Virginia and Hibbing Saturday.
