Northwestern Singers to perform Saturday and Sunday at Paramount Theatre in Austin

The Northwestern Singers will present “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Song” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Paramount Theatre in Austin.

This annual winter show includes favorite Broadway songs from “The Lion King,” “My Fair Lady,” “Kiss Me Kate,” “State Fair,” “Fiddler on The Roof” and more, including an “old folks” rendition of “My Favorite Things” complete with costumes, props and other paraphernalia.

This year a children’s choir of more than 35 voices from the public and Catholic elementary schools will also be featured. A 14-piece orchestra will accompany the singers. Many songs include choreography.

The show is under the direction of Brock Besse, who has arranged all of the vocal and instrumental music.

Tickets are available at Hy-Vee in Austin, Paramount Theatre, Tone Music in Albert Lea and from any NWS member.

The Northwestern Singers are a group of more than 40 individuals ranging in age from their early 20s to their 70s from Austin, Albert Lea and surrounding communities. Their common bond is the love of singing, dancing and performing.

They hold a benefit concert for youth music programs each November. As of November 2009, the 10th year, more than $26,000 has been given to area youth music programs. Serving the Austin area for over 50 years, the NWS also perform for local civic and church functions in both Austin and Albert Lea.
