Two Thunder players score at NAHL Top Prospects Tournament

The North American Hockey League started its annual Top Prospects Tournament Monday in Ann Arbor, Mich. with two Albert Lea Thunder players on the roster for the Central squad.

Derek Docken and Brian Nehring both left an impression at the tournament as both recorded goals in the Central’s 4-3 victory over the West.

Nehring scored a go-ahead goal at 11:44 of the second period on an assist from Tyler Klein and Ryan Boherer and Docken scored a shorthanded goal at 14:37 in the third that put the Central up 3-2.

Owatonna’s Dan Cecka scored the game-winner at 17:46.

The Central will play the South Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and wrap up the tournament Wednesday against the North at noon.

Docken and Nehring were the only two players selected from the Thunder. The selections were based on a team’s record and each team was awarded a specific amount of players.
