Has the city or county government ever thought about issuing permits for the people who set their fish houses out for ice fishing every year? I’ve been told that some of these fishermen will leave at the end of the year and leave all their garbage behind for other people to clean up or to go to the bottom of the lake. Maybe it’s time to start asking everyone who wants to fish to pay for the cost of clean up by charging a fee for a permit. The Department of Natural Resources or Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office can check these sites and if no permit is visible, then a fine is issued. It’s an easy way to keep the garbage out of the lake.
