Organization news: Salem Women’s Executive Board

The Salem Lutheran Women’s Executive Board (Albert Lea) met on Feb. 2. Deb Beighley presided at the meeting, which opened with devotions by Laurel Herdina. Kathy DePoppe read the secretary’s report. Sharon Dilling distributed copies of current treasury status.

Correspondence was received from the Salvation Army. Each Circle leader was requested to bring up the needs of the Salvation Army food shelves at the February Circle meetings.

Thank offerings for the year were discussed and voted on as follows: February thank offering will be given to the Ecumenical Food Shelf, the May thank offering will be given to Salem youth, the September thank offering will be placed in the Salem pastor’s discretionary fund.

The World Day of Prayer meeting sponsored by Church Women United will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church on Friday, March 5, at 9:15 a.m.

Beighley stated the sharing and caring list is being updated with several new names added and she stressed that this list should be used. Lois Anderson brought up that several kitchen items needed to be purchased/replaced. Marianne DePoppe, program chairwoman, announced there will be a WELCA brunch held on Saturday, May 1, at 10 a.m. called a “May Day Mixer.” All Salem members (male or female) are welcome. Pauline Hall stated 24 Salem shut-ins had been called on by the WELCA Mission Team Jan. 13. There was discussion on the cost to circles for serving Sew ‘N Tell lunches.

Sew ‘N Tell had met on Jan. 12 and 26. Used clothing was packed, with 53 boxes for the Marie Sandvik Center and 26 boxes for Appalachia. The circle duties for February and March were reviewed.

The next WELCA board meeting will be held on March 2 at 6:30 p.m.
