Officials on Thursday afternoon were reopening one of the two closed Red River bridges in Grand Forks. The other was expected to reopen by Monday.
The bridges connecting Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, Minn., were closed a week ago. A third bridge remained open.
Dikes built after the record flood of 1997 protect the cities, but the approaches to the two bridges still become impassable in high water.
City spokesman John Bernstrom said Minnesota and North Dakota transportation officials need to inspect closed bridges before they can reopen.
