Minnesota Senate deserves praise

Kudos to the Minnesota Senate for passing a bill that would extend domestic abuse protections to companion animals.
Many batterers try to control their victims, such as a partner or spouse, by threatening, harming, and/or killing the victim’s animals. Victims in domestic violence cases are often reluctant to leave an abusive situation for fear of what might happen to their animals. Including animals in court protective orders will undoubtedly prevent many people and their beloved animal companions from being harmed or even killed by abusers.
No animal or human deserves to live in an abusive situation. If you know or suspect that someone is harming animals, report it to authorities immediately. To learn more about the link between cruelty to animals and family violence, visit www.HelpingAnimals.com.
