The funeral service for Roman Joseph Staloch of Freeborn will be at 11 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, New Richland. The Rev. Swaminatha Pothireddy will officiate. Interment will be in Freeborn Cemetery, Freeborn. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 E. Main St., Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Roman died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 91.
Roman was born Aug. 29, 1918, near Wells, to Joseph and Minnie (Schultz) Staloch. He attended country school near Easton. Roman married Verniece (Reb) Staloch on April 26, 1950, in Wells. They lived eight years in Wells, and then moved to the farm near Freeborn until 1996. From the farm, they moved into the town of Freeborn. Roman was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church. Roman was a World War II veteran, a paratrooper in the 117th Airborne Division. He farmed near Freeborn since 1958. He enjoyed playing in a 500 card club for 50 years, fishing and traveling with his wife, gardening and the Farmers Market, and loved the Lord.
Survivors are his six children. They are: daughter Patty and her husband Daniel Jacobs of Alden, Jason and wife Melanie (Richter) and children McKoy, McQuade and Isaac, Sara (Jacobs) and husband Kile Stewart, John Jacobs, Amanda (Jacobs) and her husband Jon Dierenfeld; son LaMar Staloch of Albert Lea, Christopher and wife Sara (Trask) and child Benjamin, Dominque (Nic) Staloch; daughter Sharon and her husband Richard Honstad of Freeborn, Richie and wife Amanda (Stenzel) and children Morgan, Alexander, and Owen, Ryan and wife Jessi (Schulte), Michael and wife Kelly (Klunder) and child Kyle, Jerrad Honstad; daughter Deb and her husband Thomas Sonnek of Farimont, Matthew and wife Katie (Martin) and child Brynn, Aaron Sonnek, Angela Sonnek; son Kenneth Staloch of Coon Rapids and child Joseph Faricy; son Roman Jeff and his wife Irene (Zenz) of Byron, Halie and Parker.
He is also survived by brothers and sisters and their families: Edward Staloch, Catherine Zimney, Elizabeth Chicos (Leo), Louis Staloch (Marvel), Marie Zimney (Felix); sisters-in-law and their families: Darlene Kukuk (Herb), Pat Reb-Peterson; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Verniece Staloch, in July 2009; parents: Joseph and Minnie (Schultz) Staloch; sister, Dorothy Landsteiner; brother-in-law, Bernard Landsteiner; sister in-law, Marjorie Staloch; brother-in-law, Anton Zimney; and brother-in-law, Harvey Reb.
