Dorothy Engebretson, 95

Dorothy L. Engebretson, 95, of Albert Lea, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the South Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery, Seely Township, Faribault County.
Dorothy was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Bricelyn, the daughter of Lewis B. and Elizabeth (Thompson) Johnson. On March 14, 1937, she married Christopher Engebretson at the parsonage in Bricelyn.
Dorothy lived for her family. As a farm wife, she was a very hard-working woman. She did various daily chores including cleaning the milk separator, and taking care of her chickens and picking and cleaning the eggs. Dorothy was an amazing cook and was known for her angel food cake made from scratch. She looked out for others before herself. She would give away her last penny if someone else needed it. Dorothy had a strong faith in her Lord. She was loving and patient and looked forward to visits from Pastor Todd.
Dorothy is survived by eight children: Darlene (husband Richard) Jordahl of Albert Lea, Lorraine (husband William) Goette of Albert Lea, Mavis (husband Eldar) Westergaard of Oakland, Glorian (husband Gerald) Hamson of Bricelyn, Clifford Engebretson of Albert Lea, Diane Schisel of Forest City, Iowa, Lloyd (wife Linda) Engebretson of Bricelyn and Connie (wife Janice) Engebretson of Kiester; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Bosma of Albert Lea; four brothers-in-law: Harry Engebretson of Kiester, Laurence Engebretson of Eagan, Selmer (wife June) Engebretson of Waterford, Mich. and Carlyle (wife Janet) Engebretson of Kiester; and one sister-in-law, Carmen Engebretson of Santa Monica, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Christopher; two great-grandchildren: Morgan and Nicole; two brothers: Christopher Johnson and Merlend Johnson; three sisters: Christine Sahr, Geraldine O’Keefe, Margaret in infancy; three brothers-in-law: Morris Engebretson, Willie Engebretson and Leslie Nelson. and three sisters-in-law: Gladys Nelson, Maurine Engebretson and Carol Engebretson.
