Local sixth-graders win at Math Masters

On March 12, 24 teams and 124 students took part in a sixth-grade Math Masters competition in Austin.

Following are the students who competed for Albert Lea Area Schools and the awards they won.

Competing from Halverson Elementary were Matthew Tate, Colton Mowers, Foster Otten, Spencer Pannkuk, Haley Simon, Emma Boyenga, Herbie Lein, Mattie Lestrud, Eric Ronnenberg and Sara Vanek.

Competing from Hawthorne Elementary were Tyler Habana, Alex Hannegrefs, Skyler Hanson, Haley Larson, Parker Mullenbach, Jennie Bump, Theresa Graham, Ben Haugen, Bailey Sandon and Ashlee Whebbe.

Competing from Sibley Elementary were Mason Hammer, Madi Linde, Zack Romer, Mercedes Saltou, Jake Thompson, Taylor Herfindahl, Jake Kilby, Sam Moyer, Kayla Overland and Amy Sanderson.

Competing from Lakeview Elementary were Lindsey Horejsi, Quinn Petersen, Cory Siefken, Sam Ware, Ashley Willett, Alec Edwards, Ahnika Jensen, Genevieve Johnson, Kyle Neidermeier and Samantha Nielsen.

Receiving awards in facts tests were: Colton Mowers, first place; Spencer Pannkuk, second place; Amy Sanderson, third place; Sam Ware, fourth place; Haley Simon, 11th place; and Jake Thompson, 15th place.

Receiving awards in individual testing rounds were: Sam Ware, first place; Foster Otten, fourth place; Spencer Pannkuk, fifth place; Jake Thompson, eighth place; Matthew Tate, 11th place; Haley Simon, 14th place; Genevieve Johnson, 16th place; and Samantha Nielsen, 18th place.

Receiving team awards were: Colton Mowers, Spencer Pannkuk, Foster Otten, Haley Simon and Matthew Tate, second place; Alec Edwards, Ahnika Jensen, Genevieve Johnson, Kyle Neidermeier and Samantha Nielsen, fourth place; Lindsey Horejsi, Quinn Petersen, Cory Siefken, Sam Ware and Ashley Willett, sixth place.
