Pedestrian hit on I-35

A man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after he was reportedly hit by a truck one mile north of the Minnesota-Iowa border on Interstate 35.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident occurred just after 4:30 p.m. on southbound I-35 near mile 1.

According to the State Patrol, Thomas E. Shadle, 52, of Clinton, Iowa, was a pedestrian when he was struck by a 1984 Kenworth Construction truck.

He was in critical condition this morning.

After he was hit, Shadle was lying in a lane of traffic. Authorities diverted automobiles to the right lane only, according to correspondence from the scene. A Mayo One helicopter responded.

The State Patrol report states 57-year-old Robert Schmitz of Swaledale, Iowa, was the driver of the 1984 Kenworth Construction truck. The truck had been traveling south on I-35.

Further description of the incident is pending reconstruction investigation.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
