Plays, Tootsie Roll sales, pancakes make weekend eventful

The Albert Lea Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Tootsie Roll fundraiser on Saturday. Ninety percent of donations will go to Arc of Freeborn County to help fund advocacy and support for people of all ages with developmental disabilities. The other 10 percent will go to the Minnesota Special Olympics Fall Bowling Classic.

Friday, April 30
The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.
The Freeborn County Genealogical Society will hold a Swiss steak fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 56, 142 N. Broadway Ave. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 10 years.
Albert Lea Community Theatre will present
Albert Lea High School will present “The Movie Game” at 7:30 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Tickets are available at the door for $5 for students and $7 for adults.
Saturday, May 1
The 100-mile Freeborn County American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon will start at the Sibley warming house at 6 a.m.
Habitat for Humanity Freeborn/Mower will hold a groundbreaking for its 29th Habitat home in Albert Lea at 9 a.m. at 705 Alcove St.

First Lutheran Church of Glenville will hold a ladies luncheon and style show at noon. There will be fashions from Bonworths and Vanity. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 years and younger. Tickets are available at the door or at the church office, 448-2925, or at the A.G.E. office, 448-0028. Proceeds will help the church celebrate its 100th anniversary and A.G.E. (Assisting Glenville’s Elderly)

Sunday, May 2
Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 E. Main St., will host a pancake breakfast to raise funds for the American Legion and VFW Honor Guard uniforms from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dennis Brue’s famous pancakes, sausage and eggs will be served for a suggested $6 per person.
Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home will hold a pancake breakfast to benefit Crossroads Community Hospice from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home, 1415 Highway 13 N. Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be prepared by Chris Cakes. Donations will be received.

The Freeborn County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 3 p.m. in the lower level of the museum. Enter through the gate near the fairground arches. There will be a review of 2009 and a preview of plans for 2010 as well as plans for the museum building expansion. Membership dues can be paid then.
