Funeral services for Roger D. Hansen, 82, of Truman, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Church of Christ, Truman, with the Rev. Merrill Davis officiating. Interment will take place at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, rural Truman. Visitation was Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman and one hour before the services at the church.
Roger died on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Fairmont Medical Center.
Roger Dwaine Hansen was born on Feb. 20, 1928, in rural Albert Lea, to Elmer and Naomi (Jensen) Hansen. He attended school in Freeborn County. Roger farmed with his father. Roger was united in marriage to Violet Carlson on Aug. 8, 1948, at the Truman Church of Christ. After marriage, they lived on the Carlson family farm on the edge of Truman, where he farmed. Roger was a member of the Truman Church of Christ where he served as a deacon, elder, trustee and chairman of the board for many years. He also served on the board of Good News Productions International. Farming was Roger’s life. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling. Roger and Violet traveled to all 50 states.
Roger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Violet of Truman; one daughter, Mary Gail (Tom) Jones of New Berlin, Wis.; three sons: Mark (Joan) Hansen of Truman, Steve (Ramona) Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and James (Brenda) Hansen of Truman; 13 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; three sisters: Ramona Peterson of Alden, Pauline (Harland) Nelson of Albert Lea and Althea (Marvin) Schmidt of Albert Lea; one brother-in-law, Richard Jensen of Edina; one sister-in-law, Marilyn (Don) Swanson of Sherburn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elmer and Pearl Carlson; one sister, Betty Anne Jensen; and one brother-in-law, Richard Peterson.
