Vikings, Bulldogs capture wins

Northwood-Kensett girls’ track coach Ryan Severson knew coming into the season it would have to rely on field events to score points.
And they came through in a big way on Friday.
Northwood-Kensett senior Kathy Porter won both the discus and shot put, while senior Lauren Severson took second in both events to help the Vikings score 103 points en route to a first-place finish in Class B on Friday night in Northwood.
Newman Catholic finished second with 82 points. Ventura rounded out the top three, as it scored 57 points.
Porter won the discus with a throw of 82 feet, 9 inches, and the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 6 inches.
Severson notched a throw of 78 feet, 2 inches in the discus and 30 feet, 8 inches in the shot put to finish right behind Porter in both events.
Northwood-Kensett junior Tony Wolloiu finished first in the high jump for the Vikings with a jump of 4 feet, 8 inches.
Junior Jordan Garcia added to the number of first-place finishes for the Vikings with her victory in the 100-meter dash. Garcia recorded a time of 15.31 seconds in the event to give Northwood-Kensett its fourth first-place finish and freshman Mary Bjorklund added another victory in the 400. Bjorklund crossed the finish at 1:10.04 seconds to win the event.
The Vikings picked up two more victories in the relay events. The Northwood-Kensett sprint medley team would record a time of 2:13.23 to take first place, while the 4×100 meter relay team also captured first place by crossing the finish line with a time of 1:01.14.
In the Class A division the Lake Mills girls’ track team claimed 10 firsts to take first place in the division with 122 points.
West Fork finished second place with 113 points, nine points behind Lake Mills and St. Ansgar rounded out the top three as it recorded 82 points.
Sophmore Haley Krull led the Bulldogs with two first-place finishes.
Krull won the 100 with a time of 12.15 seconds and the 200 in 27.81 seconds.
Lake Mills senior Darcy Nelson won the 800 with a time of 2:40.15 seconds, while freshmen Hallie Erdahl claimed first in the 400 for the Bulldogs with a time of 1:03.83 seconds.
Along with individual success, the Bulldogs also had success in the relays.
The Bulldogs won five relay events on the night.
The 4×800 relay recorded a time of 1:11.73 seconds to win the event. The distance medley relay also claimed a first place with a time of 4:56.65 seconds. The 4×200 relay team crossed the finish line in 1:53.59 seconds to win that event. The Bulldogs claimed another first place in the sprint medley with a time of 2:03.86 and also in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:29.73 seconds.
Lake Mills also had freshmen Jurnee Pena win the long jump with a jump of 13 feet, 9 3/4 inches.
