Wolverines take advantage of Alden-Conger miscues

The Alden-Conger baseball team gave Glenville-Emmons opportunities throughout the game Friday and nearly each time the Wolverines capitalized en route to a 14-4, five-inning victory in Glenville.
The Knights (0-3, 0-1 Valley) committed eight errors and Glenville-Emmons used nearly each one to its advantage.
“We took advantage of their mistakes,” said Wolverines head coach Louie Toulouse. “Good teams do that and you put them away when you have the chance.”
The game got off to an ominous start for Alden-Conger as the Knights committed three errors in the first inning and the Wolverines (2-0) used them to build an 8-0 lead.
Alden-Conger played without two starters and head coach Faron Bremseth had to save his arms for a tournament in Wells Saturday. Toulouse had to preserve his arms as well because of a tournament in New Richland and pulled starter Tyler Woodside after two innings.
Andrew Kluender finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Glenville-Emmons and Jon Mittag went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Just four of the Wolverines’ runs were earned runs.
The Knights rallied briefly in the fourth and fifth innings. Alden-Conger pushed four runs across in the fourth when Cam Majerus ledoff with a double and Casey Strom and Spencer Wallin followed with base hits. Wallin drove in one run and Jordan Johnson drove in two with a base hit.
Strom added an RBI double in the fifth to score Lucas Kleinschrodt, but Kyle Thompson ended the game with a strikeout.
For now Bremseth is just looking to get his complete lineup back and build some continuity before it’s too late.
“I figure about halfway we’ll start clicking,” Bremseth said. “I’m hoping they don’t give up then we’re going to take off.”
