Area track teams head to state

The Iowa state track and field meet begins Thursday at Drake University in Des Moines with two area teams sending a number of events.
The Lake Mills girls’ track and field team will send nine events and the Northwood-Kensett girls’ track and field one event.
The 4×800-meter relay team of Lindy Pins, Brook Groe, Hallie Erdahl and Darcy Nelson qualified for the state meet, as did Haley Krull in the 100 and 200.
Krull has the third fastest seed time in the 100 and the fourth fastest time in the 200. Krull finished second in the 200 last year and third in the 100.
Hallie Erdahl also qualified for the 400 with a time of 1:01.50, the 13th fastest seed time.
Darcy Nelson will run in the 400 hurdles and has the 13th fastest seed time at 1:08.75.
The 4×200 relay team of MacKenzie Baumann, Jurnee Pena, Haley Mathews and Krull qualified with the eighth fastest seed time with a 1:49.40.
The 4×400 relay team of Mathews, Krull, Erdahl and Nelson enter the meet with a time of 4:12.20 and have the eighth fastest seed time.
The 4×800 relay team of Lindy Pins, Brook Groe, Erdahl and Nelson qualified with a time of 10:16.85 and have the 12th fastest seed time.
The Bulldogs also qualified the distance medley relay team of Mathews, Pena, Nelson and Pins with a time of 4:31.93 for the 19th fastest seed time
Kathy Porter qualified for Northwood-Kensett in the shot put and has the 11th best seed mark with a throw of 35 feet, 3 inches.
The Northwood-Kensett boys’ track and field team will have four events at the state meet.
The Vikings 4×100 relay team of Nik Werner, Spencer Capitani, Jayson Olson and Sam Arnold and the 4×200 relay team of Werner, Olson, Capitani and Arnold qualified.
The 4×100 relay team finished eighth last season at the state meet.
Northwood-Kensett also qualified the shuttle hurdle relay team of Olson, Tanner Haberman, Capitani and Sam Arnold.
Jacob Gordon will compete in the shot put.
