Charges dropped in meth bust

WINONA — Prosecutors have dismissed charges without explanation in a methamphetamine bust that police called one of the largest in Lewiston’s history.
The Winona Daily News reports that court documents don’t explain why the charges were dropped, although charges against one man were dismissed “in the interest of justice.”
Winona County Attorney Chuck MacLean declined to explain the decision to the newspaper, but said the charges could be refiled.
The bust made headlines in February and was lauded by Lewiston police in a press release.
Since then, however, the Lewiston City Council fired two officers who led the case, the former police chief and an officer tasked with logging the evidence.
