Funeral services for Dorothy Ann Groeneweg, 79, of Hollandale, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Hollandale Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Harrison Harnden will officiate. Interment will be at the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hollandale Christian Reformed Church and one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Dorothy died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center.
Dorothy (Wynia) Groeneweg was born on Jan. 14, 1931, on a farm on mile south of Hollandale to Edward and Lucy (DeRaad) Wynia and was a life long resident of Freeborn County. She attended elementary school in Maple Island and Hollandale and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1950. She married Joe Groeneweg in the parsonage of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church on Jan. 15, 1952, by the Rev. A. A. Koning. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church. Dorothy loved to paint pictures, collect dolls and watch songbirds.
Survivors include her husband, Joe of 58 years; children: Mary Jo (Duane) Vanderploeg, Ellendale, Thomas (Kathie) Groeneweg, Clarks Grove, Gail (Kevin) Eekhoff, Sioux Falls, S.D., Edwin (Julie) Groeneweg, Albert Lea, Martin (Peggy) Groeneweg, Albert Lea; grandchildren: Kurtis (Rebecca) Vanderploeg, Jan (Andy) Bernau, Lonna Vanderploeg, Jessica Groeneweg, John Groeneweg, Sara Groeneweg, Shawn Groeneweg, Matthew Eekhoff, Mark Eekhoff, Melinda (Jackie) Cameron, Megan (Christopher) Cameron, Jackie Groeneweg, Nathan Smith, Jill Groeneweg and Doni Groeneweg; great-grandchildren: Alicia, Landon, Lily and Blaine. Other survivors include Dorothy’s sisters: Margaret (Arlo) Rogstad, Lake Mills, Iowa, Laura (Hank) Brouwers. Albert Lea, Elsie (John) VanderStoep, Hollandale; sisters-in-law: Lena (Art) Goemaat, Demotte, Ind., and Nellie Wynia, Austin. Dorothy is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lucy Wynia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Warren and Esther Morrison, Bud Wynia, Pete and Bertha Groeneweg.
