Editorial: Rain, rain go away, no, wait, um, stay

Some thoughts about the weather lately:

Scattered rains might have kept some farmers from getting into the fields as much as they would like, but they aren’t griping. With this spring being so dry, they will take the rain.

Corn planting is nearly done. Soybean planting — statewide, at least — is 40 percent done. Last year, soybeans were at 25 percent at this point. The real question local folks want to know is: When will the sweet corn be ready?

Spring came on so nice and warm for March and April, then suddenly it became cold and even snowy for some parts of the state. Hmm. What’s going on here? Maybe spring is just happening in reverse this year.

The Twins had a game canceled Friday due to rain. The last time that happened was in 1980. Do you think the strange spring weather is somehow, you know, connected?
