Motorists can expect single lane traffic on northbound Interstate 35 between Ellendale and Hope. Construction crews closed the southbound lanes on Monday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The project on southbound I-35, from state Highway 30 to Steele County Road 31, includes construction of a bituminous overlay, culvert repairs and guardrail replacements. The work will provide a smoother ride surface for motorists and increase the safety along I-35.
The Straight River South Rest Area will be closed due to construction and will reopen when the project is completed, about the end of July 2010.
Crane Creek Asphalt, a division of Mathy Construction Co., is the prime contractor for the $3.7 million construction project.
