Paul Ragatz picked up his first victories since 1995 as a baseball coach Saturday for the Alden-Conger baseball team at the Lyle/Pacelli Tournament as the Knights went 2-0 to win the tournament.
Ragatz, the activities director at Alden-Conger filled in for head coach Bret Sindelir, who had a previous commitment on the day, and the Knights finally got in the win column.
Alden-Conger (2-9) got its first victories of the season and both came in thrilling fashion. The Knights rallied from behind against Lyle/Pacelli for a 7-5 victory and rallied again against Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain for a 6-5 victory in eight innings.
Jordan Johnson threw seven innings against Lyle/Pacelli and gave up six hits while Spencer Niebuhr went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Matt Jensen went eight innings against ML/GHEC in the second game to help lead Alden-Conger to its second victory.
The Knights rallied from a 3-0 deficit and a 5-4 deficit in the seventh inning to force extra innings.
Dom Opsdahl scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch and Tony Behnke hit a single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth for the walk-off victory.
