The Alden-Conger softball team lost a 2-1 lead against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton in the sixth inning and couldn’t cash in with runners in scoring position Monday in a 3-2 loss in Janesville.
The Knights (2-9) took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but the Bulldogs took advantage of two miscues in the sixth and scored two unearned runs for the victory.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton’s Nakita Coonrod struck out 14 and gave up two runs on six hits.
“We just can’t get the hits when we need them,” said Alden-Conger head coach Gary Nelson. “We just can’t get a key hit.”
Knights sophomore Nikki Schultz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while freshman Ariel Keller, senior Allyssa Maras and junior Haley Knutson all went 1-for-3.
