One woman was transported to Albert Lea Medical Center Tuesday afternoon after her car was T-boned near the intersection of West College Street and South Washington Avenue.
According to police reports Joaquin Lozano, no address listed, was going westbound on College Street just before 2 p.m. Tuesday when he allegedly ran the stop sign at the intersection of College Street and Washington Avenue and hit a car being driven by Ellen Marie Stenseth, no address listed. Stenseth was going southbound on Washington Avenue.
Police arrested Lozano for gross misdemeanor DWI after the crash, and Stenseth was transported to the medical center.
Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels said fortunately for Stenseth she saw Lozano as he was coming through the stop sign and was able to speed up a bit. Otherwise, she might have gotten hit directly in the driver’s door.
In a second crash, just before 3 p.m., two people were transported after one car rear-ended another at 1108 Bridge Ave.
According to police reports, the driver of one car, Shalin Ashley Hoelscher, and the driver of a second car, JoAnn Marie Hinders, were transported to the medical center after complaining of whiplash-related injuries.
