The Alden-Conger softball team nearly pulled off the upset Tuesday against second-seeded Randolph in the Section 2A playoffs in Randolph, but the Knights couldn’t hold the Rockets off in the late innings.

Randolph needed a walk-off hit to get past Alden-Conger 2-1 in a game where the Knights (3-11) held an early lead.

Alden-Conger took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Nikki Schultz drove in a run and the Knights held that lead until the sixth when the Rockets got three consecutive hits to tie the game.

“They played like they should be playing,” said Alden-Conger head coach Gary Nelson. “It was disappointing, but on the other hand it was good to go out that way.”

Schultz finished 2-for-3 with a double while Anna Skov went 2-for-3. Ariel Keller and Kenzie Martin also had base hits.
