Albert Lea VFW baseball falls to Waseca

Waseca’s Jordan Steffens held the Albert Lea VFW baseball team to only one hit and Waseca offense scored four runs to defeat the Albert Lea VFW 4-0 Wednesday at Waseca.
Steffens had a perfect game until the seventh inning with two outs, when Albert Lea’s Cody Haaland slugged a single to right center to deny Steffens the no-hitter and perfect game.
Albert Lea had only one hit the entire game.
Albert Lea VFW head coach Logan Kortan said Albert Lea needs to be more aggressive at the plate.
“Our hitters needed to be more aggressive, ” Kortan said. “He threw a lot of strikes and didn’t walk kids, we needed to be more aggressive.”
Haaland took the loss for Albert Lea as he allowed 10 hits and four runs.
With the loss, Albert Lea now drops to 5-4 on the year, which puts them right in the middle of the conference.
Albert Lea will have the opportunity to get back on the winning track Saturday against Rochester Century.
“We got to bounce back and go get Century on Saturday.” Kortan said.
