South of Maple Island in northeast Freeborn County on County Road 104 (also 260th Street) there will be a detour because of a bridge closing starting June 10.
The detour route will be County Road 30 to County Road 25, which meets up with County Road 104. The bridge is a timber bridge that was originally built in 1973 at a cost of $35,700.
The new bridge is estimated at $500,000, and County Engineer Sue Miller has gotten the use of State Bridge Bonding dollars for the majority of the cost. Construction will begin this fall or early spring next year. The bridge will be closed to all traffic on June 10 and will not be reopened until construction of the bridge is complete.
