Colonels fall to Austin

After falling behind 4-0, the Colonels brought the game within one in the sixth inning before the Greyhounds’ offense exploded, ending Albert Lea’s rally.

Austin’s bats kept finding holes in the defense early, and the Greyhounds built a 3-0 in the first inning. Starting pitcher Brandon Klukow recovered, though, and gave the Colonels (0-3) a chance to win, giving up only one run over the next four innings.

Arik Matson started the rally with a solo home run in the fifth inning and the Colonels added two more in the sixth to make it 4-3.

That’s as close as they would come as Klukow left the game after five innings and Austin got the better of three Albert Lea relievers by adding nine runs in the final three frames.

The Colonels will return to action again on Saturday as they travel to play the Marshall A’s at 3 p.m.

Albert Lea’s next home game will be played Sunday at 6:30 p.m. when the Mankato Mets come to Hayek Field.
