A disc golfer walked away with $86 after a successful Sunday during the Flying Lea Disc Golf Club’s weekly league play.
Michael Cosens, who lives at 662 Morning Drive in Owatonna, threw an ace — aka hole-in-one — on Hole 8 of the 18-hole Bancroft Bay Park disc golf course. Hole 8 is 383 feet from the tee to the basket.
The shot won him the club’s ace pool, which had reached $62 over the course of nine weeks of play and a few tournaments. Members can pay $1 toward the ace pool each Sunday but are eligible for the pool only if they pay in before league play begins. Sunday was only the second time Cosens had paid in.
A score of 56 on the par-54 course enabled him to win the league play on Sunday, too, winning $24. Cosens has a handicap of -7, which gave him the lowest adjusted score that windy day. Deric Moore had the lowest raw score, 51. The Flying Lea Disc Golf Club meets at 4 p.m. every Sunday in the spring and summer for a handicap league.
