Domestic Engineers

The Domestic Engineers Extension Learning Circle met May 27 at the home of Perky Smith. President Elaine Baer presided over the business meeting. Eleven members answered roll call with their favorite picnic food.
Bev Diercks, Freeborn County representative for the Extension Southeast Minnesota District, reported on the district meeting held on May 4. The district fall kickoff will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28, in Kasson at the event center. Freeborn County is responsible for three centerpieces. The tri-county spring cluster event will be hosted by Freeborn County in April of 2011.
Councilor Perky Smith reported on the Extension Home Council meeting of May 18. The Extension scholarship luncheon will be held on Tuesday, July 20, at Trail’s Restaurant private dining room. Installation of the home council officers will take place. Poet Kay Klukow will present the program. The next home council meeting will be held on June 15, which will include examining the home council bylaws.
The Domestic Engineers club is responsible for the Freeborn County Extension Holiday Happening event to be held on Saturday, Dec. 4. The location will be at the America’s Best Value Inn, 2306 E. Main St., Albert Lea.
The Domestic Engineers 2010-11 officers were installed. The new officers are President Sharon Jahnke, Vice President Bev Diercks, Secretary Phyllis Hamborg, Treasurer Judy Myers, Councilor Sally Benson, and Sunshine Lady/Historian Carol Olson. They will take office on July 1.
Vice President Neva Mathison gave a report on the itinerary of the club one-day tour to Clear Lake, Iowa, on June 24. Elaine Baer will bring July 4 treats to the residents of Broadway Care Assisted Living Plus. The club picnic meeting will be held on July 22 at 6 p.m. at the home of Carol Olson.
Mathison presented the program on skin cancer and sun protection. The program included the three types of skin cancer. People should examine skin regularly, and have skin changes checked out by medical personnel. Avoid sunburns at any age. Protect skin with sun-shielding clothing and sunscreen.
Following the program, hostess Sally Benson served dessert.
