Fireworks fundraiser, kids triathlon, inflatable rainforest set

The second Land Between the Lakes Kids Triathlon will be held starting at the Albert Lea City Pool at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The triathlon distances are based on a child’s age. Participants will complete the swimming leg first and then ride bicycles along the Blazing Star bike trail and finish with a run.
All participants receive a T-shirt (if signed up by May 28) and a medal. Snacks and refreshments will be available after the finish line.
There is a $12 entry fee for participants or $36 per relay team.
Each participant mush have a signed registration form. Forms are available online at www.ymcaal.org or at the Albert Lea Family Y.

Friday, June 4
The annual fireworks fundraiser will be held at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Main Street from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Friday. Volunteers will be collecting donations from passersby to fund the annual Fourth of July show. The goal is $16,000.
The Emmons Lutheran Church youth group will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church social hall. There will also be a silent auction.
The Old Car Company will hold a car cruise starting at 6 p.m. The group will meet on South Broadway Avenue in the parking lot of the former Buy-N-Save building. There are no entry fees, registration or awards and the cruise will be held rain or shine.
Saturday, June 5
The Emmons Lutheran Church youth group will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon in the church social hall. There will also be a silent auction.
The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at the corner of North Broadway Avenue and Water Street.
Bixby’s Inflatable Rainforest and Bixby’s Rainforest Encounters will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Morin Park. Bixby’s Rainforest Rescue stage shows will be performed at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Free children’s tickets are available throughout the community and up to two children will be admitted free with one paid adult admission. Ride tickets and wristbands are additional.
The Albert Lea American Legion Club, 142 N. Broadway Ave., will hold a meatball dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Meatballs, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cole slaw, a dinner roll and sherbet will be served family-style for $8 per person.
Sunday, June 6
A pancake breakfast benefit, silent auction and bake sale for Jeanette “Jan” Johnson will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club. Donations are accepted. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Albert Lea, suffered a brain aneurysm on Feb. 12 that paralyzed her right side. She is now at the Good Samaritan Society struggling to learn to walk and talk again. Proceeds will help with expenses.
A cancer benefit for Carol M. Hanson will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moose Lodge. There will be a pancake breakfast served for a donation. A live auction will start at noon. There will also be a silent auction, bake sale and raffle. An account has also been set up at Wells Fargo Bank.
