The Grizzlies fell to Buffalo Ridge 62-30 Saturday, setting up a three-way tie for first place heading into the final game of the year.
Saturday, the Grizzlies scored on their first drive, going 80 yards and finishing with a 15 yard pass from Tony Tolbers to Jason Kuipers. Albert Lea missed the extra point.
The Wildcats responded with a touchdown of their own and the Grizzlie couldn’t get back in the board in the first half.
Struggling to find a rhythm after several false start penalties, the Grizzlies fell behind 41-6 at halftime, getting out-played in the secondary.
A rejuvenated Grizzlies defense kept the Wildcats out of the end zone for much of the third quarter and scored just before the fourth on a deep Tolbers pass. The Grizzlies followed by yet another 2 point conversion.
Late in the fourth quarter, with the Wildcats driving deep into Grizzlies’ territory, Steven Salinas intercepted a pass and ran it back 30 yards. This set up a tiptoe catch by Jake McClaskey.
The Grizzlies couldn’t find an answer for Buffalo Ridge’s deep ball, though, bringing their record to 3-2.
They play next Saturday at Dakota Doom.
