The Lake Mills softball team looked to end a three game losing streak on Friday as it hosted conference leading North Iowa.
The Bisons’ Becca Siemens threw seven shut out innings and the North Iowa offense scored late to defeat Lake Mills 5-0 extending the Bulldogs losing streak to four games.
“I think it was a solid game by the Lake Mills girls,” Softball coach Wade Fridley said after facing the number one team in the North Iowa Conference. “I think we held them pretty good.”
The game was tied at zero entering the fifth inning, where North Iowa took advantage of some miscues by the Bulldogs.
The Bison scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, one coming on a pass ball.
Later in the top of the sixth, North Iowa again scored three more runs on two wild pitches to take a 5-0 lead.
In all, the Bulldogs committed five errors during the game.
“As far as the errors go,” Fridley said. “Everyone makes mistakes.”
Becca Siemens earned the win for the Bison, as she went seven innings, allowed six hits and no earned runs.
Josie Brackey took the loss, going seven innings as she struck out 16.
“Josie pitched well,” Fridley said. “The defense helped her out except for those errors. ”
While Brackey pitched well, the offense for the Bulldogs had trouble getting anything going against North Iowa.
Lake Mills collected six hits on the night, but was unable to get any runs across the plate.
The best chance the Bulldogs’ had to scoring runs came in the bottom of the third inning when Carlie Christianson hit a triple to right center. But Siemens got Lindy Pins to ground-out to end the threat.
Lake Mills will try to get back on the winning track on Saturday at the Central Springs tournament and then travel to Garner-Hayfield on Monday.
