A 13-year-old rural Matawan boy died Monday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester from injuries he sustained in an ATV crash the week before.
According to the Waseca County Sheriff’s Office, the boy, Dylan Johnson, was backing out of his driveway on an ATV onto 205th Avenue, when he was struck by a grain truck that was traveling eastbound just after 3:30 p.m. June 14.
Waseca County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brad Milbrath said the driver of the grain truck tried to swerve but was limited because of a semi-trailer traveling westbound on the same road.
Milbrath said Johnson was not wearing a helmet. He was flown by a Mayo One helicopter to Rochester.
Responding to the scene were the Waseca County Sheriff’s Office, New Richland Fire Department, New Richland Ambulance, Waldorf Fire Department and North Ambulance.
