50 years ago – 1960

Qualifying from Region 14 to go to the state Jaycee Golf Tournament from Albert Lea were Roger Peterson, Bob Kline and Dick Jones. Peterson was medalist with a 112, Kline finished sixth at 121 and Jones was seventh at 126.

In Church League softball Grace Lutheran defeated Conger 7-2. Winning pitcher John Thorson threw a (3) hitter, had (9) strike outs and hit a triple. Losing pitcher also allowed only (3) hits.

Local area athletes who won letters at Luther College included the following: Clay Lyon of Albert Lea – basketball and baseball; basketball – Loren Moen of Lake Mills; baseball – Del Fure of Kiester, Dave Long of Albert Lea, Wayne Halvorson of Delavan and Daryl Kinden of Lake Mills; track – Bob Holtan of Northwood.

25 years ago 1985

John White was the winning pitcher and had three hits for for the Albert Lea American Legion baseball team in their 5-4 victory over Mankato West.

ALHS graduate Scott Arett will attend the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and play football.

Awards were presented to the boys and girls track teams at the annual picnic. Boys – Aaron Vangen – Most Improved; Tom Phillips – Most Valuable Player; Scott Butt – Coaches Award. Girls – Val Stenseth – Most Valuable Player; Amy Stadheim – Most Improved; Konnie Severtson, Jessica Scherff and Jennifer Gildner – Coaches Award.

10 years ago – 2000

Members of the Albert Lea Wrestling Club who won championships at the fourth annual Minnesota / USA State Folkstyle Tournament held at Champlin High School included Trey Hable, Corey Hansen, Logan Kortan, Nick Flores, Eric Johnson, Alex Paul, Brandon Klukow, Cody Hansen and Chris Hable.

Receiving awards for the ALHS 2000 baseball season were Levi Hendrickson – Most Valuable Player; Isaac Walton – Most Improved and Highest Batting Average; Adam Hanson – Coaches Award.

Kevin Boyer of Albert Lea rolled a 300 game in the Harold’s Classic League at Albert Lea’s Holiday Lanes.

The Albert Lea American Legion U-15 girls soccer team defeated Prior Lake 3-2 with Amy Ravenhorst scoring (2) goals and Sydney Staloch (1). Keri Myran scored for Albert Lea in their 1-0 victory over Rochester.
