Chrissy Monson earned a state tournament bid by winning the 3200 meter on Thursday with her best time of the season.
Sarah Wenum and Alyssa Allison reached the finals in the 200 meter and 800 meter, respectively, and will look to copy Monson as they compete for a trip to state on Saturday.
But Monson may not be done. The ninth-grader will be joined by Rachel Kenis in the 1600 meter finals Saturday, a race Monson won easily at the Big Nine meet.
Monson’s winning time in the 3200 meter was 11 minutes, 8.52 seconds. She ran the same at Big Nine in 11:13.34.
All four Tiger relay teams will be competing in the section finals along with shot put, triple jump and pole vault.
The girls’ performance at the Section 1AA meet continued to impress head coach Margo Wayne, less than one week after the girls cut time across the board at Big Nine.
“Most of the girls either equaled or surpassed their seeds,” Wayne said. “We have a tough section so we’re proud of those who got seeded and those who didn’t make it.”
All section final events will be held Saturday at Lakeville South High School.
Those who join Monson in the state tournament will race June 11-12 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
