USC girls’ golf, Gackstatter qualify for state tournament

United South Central girls’ golf shot a 427 Thursday at North Links Golf Course in Mankato, edging second-place Sleepy Eye to win Section 2A and advance to the state tournament.
Freshman Ali Wood and eighth-grader Claire Christian led the Rebels shooting a 99 and 100, respectively. Wood finished in second place individually, following a three person playoff after being tied for first. Christian finished in fifth place after losing in a two person playoff.
Rounding out the scores for USC were Erinn Hotzler with a 111, Veronica Schindler with a 117 and senior Genna Anderson with a 125.
The USC boys’ golf team narrowly missed advancing to state, placing second with a 341 behind Sleepy Eye’s 336.
Sam Gackstatter placed second in the boys’ tournament with a 73. He advanced to the state tournament individually.
The girls’ team, along with Gackstatter will compete at state June 16-17 at the Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
