Memorial services for Wendell “Ross” Arnold of Albert Lea will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. James Berning will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans organizations.
Ross died Wednesday morning, June 16, 2010, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 78 years of age.
Ross was born March 29, 1932, in Minnesota the son of Wendell and Alma (Larson) Arnold. He graduated from high school in Mankato and received his degree in teaching from Mankato State University. He was married to Alice Riss on Sept. 1, 1956, in Worthington. Ross taught math in public school in Wisconsin before coming to Albert Lea to teach at Albert Lea High School for many years. He also was an accountant for Shell Oil in Albert Lea, and a projectionist at Starlight Drive Inn and Broadway Theater. He was a member of the American Legion and the Careyaires Vocal Group.
He loved stamp collecting, photography, model airplanes, fishing bowling and singing with the Careyaires.
Ross is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice, of Albert Lea; children: Deni and husband Mike Garcia of Emmons, Debi and husband Mark Tough of Sioux Falls, S.D., Cheryl and husband Brad Williams of Garden City, Dave (Connie) Arnold of Northfield, Scott (Michelle) Arnold of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Gabriel Adams, Jasmine Manuel, Annissa Dubro, Alisha Boyer, Ryan Williams, Zach Garcia, Jessica Williams, Olivia Garcia, Hailey Tough; great-grandchildren: Brayden Dubro, Lincoln Giles, Lukas Miller, Gavin Manuel; sister, Marilyn Norman of Blaine; and nephews: Mitchel Norman and Mark Norman.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Alma Arnold.
