Funeral services for Alpha Jane Odelia Wangsness, 87, of Clarks Grove will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wayne Halvorson will officiate. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Alpha died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the New Richland Care Center.
Alpha Jane Odelia Harum Wangsness was born on Oct. 16, 1922, to Anton and Sena (Johnson) Harum in Albert Lea. She grew up in the Hartland and Clarks Grove area. Alpha attended rural Hartland schools and Bethany Lutheran High at Mankato. On April 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Walter R. Wangsness in Hartland. The couple farmed outside of Clarks Grove until retirement in 1982. Alpha was a member of the Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church where she played organ for 60 years and was an active member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Rebekah-Ruth Circle. She also worked as the secretary for the Salvation Army for 17 years. Alpha was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. She treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include son, Wayne and his wife, Roni Wangsness; grandson, Eryk and his wife, Sara Wangsness; granddaughter, Heather Wangsness; great-grandchildren: Jade, Grant and Lindsey; many nieces and nephews.
Alpha was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Sena Harum, and husband, Walter Wangsness.
