Memorial services for Bernhardt Andersen, age 91, of Albert Lea will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Hayward Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kathie Fick will officiate. Burial will be at the Hayward Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s Organization. Bernhardt died on Friday, July 16, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.
Bernhardt Andersen was born on Dec. 14, 1918, in Mansfield Township the son of Hans and Ida (Sharf) Andersen. He attended rural school and later served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Bernhardt was united in marriage to Lucille M. Schroeder on Dec. 23, 1940 in Northwood, Iowa. After his discharge he returned to Freeborn County. Bernhardt was a farmer in Hayward Township and also an auto mechanic at Fordtown in Austin. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. Bernhardt was a member of Hayward Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille, children: Dale and wife, Inez, Andersen, Keith and wife, Mary, Andersen, Lana Andersen, JoAnn Ress, Bonnie and husband, Bob, Felt, Wanda and husband, Randy, Hartson and Julie and husband, Randy, Sorensen. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and sister, Ingeborg Taylor.
Bernhardt was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
