Braves down Colonels

The Waseca Braves had 15 hits and scored six runs to defeat the Albert Lea Colonels 6-4 Wednesday at Hayek Field.

Kevin Nelson earned the win for the Braves.

Nelson went 7 2/3 innings, allowed three hits and struck out nine.

Colby Strilaeff took the loss for the Colonels.

Strilaeff went eight innings and struck out five.

“I thought he pitched very well tonight,” Albert Lea Colonels baseball coach Bill Trygstad said.

Albert Lea was led by Arik Matson at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a double. Jared Matson and Connor Kortan each recorded a hit for the Colonels.

Even with the loss, Trygstad says that over the past couple games, he’s seen improved play from his club.

“We’re starting to play better ball,” Trygstad said. “We just need to get the hitting going.”

The Colonels(1-10 overall,1-6 conference) are back in action on Friday night at Hayek Field against Wells. First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m.
