UP — To all of the sheriff candidates who are throwing their hats into the ring.

It is not easy putting your family and time into the public scrutiny for all to see. Kudos and good luck to you all. To voters: The primary election is earlier this year so remember to get out and vote on Aug. 10.

UP — To the United South Central Legion baseball team for advancing to the state tournament for the first time in 53 years.

They finished their regular season with a record of 14-3. That’s no small feat, and we hope the hard work pays off. We also hope that the team can go to state again in years to come.

DOWN — To cancer.

It just took another great local person in Dennis Raleigh of Ace Hardware. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Peggy, and the whole Raleigh family.

UP — To Carl Pavano’s mustache.

If that is what is helping him be such a consistent big game pitcher, then it is time for mustaches for the whole clubhouse. Go Twins!
