The Northwood-Kensett baseball team looked to get back on the winning side of things on Friday as it hosted conference rival Central Springs in Northwood.
Central Springs’ Nick Treloar threw five solid innings and the Panthers took advantage of five Vikings errors to defeat Northwood-Kensett 15-1 in five innings.
“Its the little things,” Northwood-Kensett baseball coach Mike Reindl said. “The walks, the errors, you know on the flyballs and the outs we should have. That’s what hurt us tonight.”
Central Springs got off to a quick start as they scored three runs in the first inning, two of which came on errors by Northwood-Kensett.
In the bottom of the first, the Vikings got a run back as Derick Varner smacked a RBI double that scored Spencer Capitani to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
After that though, it was all Central Springs.
The Panthers scored five runs in the third, one run in the fourth and six runs in the fifth to take the game 15-1.
Northwood-Kensett had trouble against Central Springs pitcher Nick Treloar.
The Vikings had only three hits the entire game and couldn’t catch any breaks.
“We only had one strikeout tonight,” Reindl said. “That says a lot. When you go through your line-up and you’re playing younger kids and we got through the entire game and had only one strikeout.
Treloar got the win for Central Springs as he went all five innings and allowed only three hits.
Jacob Katcher took the loss for the Vikings.
Katcher went all five inning and allowed seven hits and walked nine batters.
Although Katcher struggled against Central Springs, Reindl said he was impressed how Katcher kept on battling.
“He did a good job,” Reindl said. “He’s never gotten past the second inning and all the way through high school he’s never been past the second inning. He pitched five innings tonight.”
Northwood-Kensett is back in action on Monday at North Butler and then travels to West Fork on Tuesday.
